Exploring Relationships and Marriage With Fragile Families
The focus of the Program for Couples is on men and women who have mutual interest in exploring the possibility of formalizing their commitment to one another through marriage. The Program for Mothers focuses on unmarried mothers who have interest in preparing for mature relationships that could potentially include marriage. The Program for Fathers focuses on unmarried fathers who have interest in preparing themselves for mature relationships that could potentially include marriage. The aim of this curriculum is to promote among the adults an understanding of what it takes to build healthy, mature relationships – the kind of committed relationships that strengthen families and communities. Exploring Relationships and Marriage with Fragile Families was developed by the Center for Fathers, Families and Workforce Development (CFWD) for the State of Louisiana, Department of Social Services. A three-program curriculum targeting a distinct
subpopulation: low-income, never-married, African American parents
between 18 and 35 years of age. Each program (Program for Mothers,
Program for Fathers and Program for Couples) focuses on a specific
component of the larger effort to promote effective relationship
management and explore the issue of marriage with this subpopulation of
African American men and women.
